A good tidy can be bad for your ego...

I was giving my fabric tubs a clean up today, pulling fabric out, seeing what I had, what I needed etc etc. Low and behold I found two things that that are as yet unfinished - a gorgeous little boys shirt which needs a hem and an equally gorgeous pair of boys overalls minus cuffs and buttons. So I think I've identified my problem - HEMS. I really, really, really hate doing hems - HATE IT I tell you!!!! And I think I can blame my mother for this. Mum always used to insist that hems be done by hand and I hate sewing by hand (unless I'm embroidering) hence my passionate dislike for hemming. And even now that I simply whizz the bottom of a garment through the sewing machine my dislike for hemming continues.

This week however I am going to finish these two projects. Also I've finished washing up Alex's pants which I finished on the weekend so as soon as they are dry I'll be able to blog those too, so watch this space for chocolate frogs (mmmmm yummy!!!).

Its only taken 7 months...

I'm actually going to start with the second project I finished today because it was in fact a project started about 7 months ago. This particular outfit was going to be a present for my cousin's daughter but I ended up slightly stuffing up the neckline. As a result it got put away and forgotten about until I pulled it out today and thought I better finish it off.

As it turns out I am really pleased with the results. I found the neckline of the top quite tricky when I did it the first time round (7 months ago) but for some unknown reason didnt have too many issues with it today. I absolutely love the lettuce leaf edging (or is it cabbage leaf???) and considering its the very first time I've tried it, I'm stoked with how it turned out. The tshirt ended up being quite easy to make but the ruffled sleeves make it look far more complicated.

The pants were also very easy to make (and I love the material, so summery). I did slightly stuff up one pocket but thats only because I'm a twit sometimes not because the pattern was in anyway complicated.

Top Pattern: Ottobre 3/2007 Pattern 4
Pants Pattern: Ottobre 3/2007 Pattern 3
Material: Spotlight

Excuses, excuses

Before I go into how virtuous I've been this weekend with sewing I feel very strongly that I should explain why I've been so incredibly tardy in updating this blog. Yes so far there has been just one measly post on a blog that was supposed to be fuelling my desire to sew more.

You see, I've had a "job", a sewing "job". Unlike regular sewing, a sewing "job" is not exciting and its definitely not something that you want to do. But its there... its always there. And everytime you look at the sewing machine, the guilt from not having completed the "job" is overwhelming.

What was the job you ask??? Chair covers. Paul wanted some chair covers to keep our lounge chairs from getting too stained from the kids. And in the end I got the "job" done but it was fiddly, long and I'm really disappointed with how they turned out. They do however do the job they were intended for so at the end of the day I guess they were a success.

Since the job has been completed I once again feel that I can sit in front of the sewing machine without feeling guilty. I've also set up a little corner in the front room with both the sewing machine and overlocker out and plugged in so whenever I want 10 minutes of sewing time I can just sit down without having to worry about getting everything out and then packing it all away again.

So on to my productive weekend.
